DIT supports UK businesses to strategically grow in international markets. Delivered throughout the West Midlands, DIT services offer advice, guidance and practical help to exporters of every experience level.

Are you a First Time Exporter?

Whether you are exporting for the first time, or have limited experience selling internationally, DIT can help to build your confidence and provide access to a range of export training and information.

Passport to Export, a 12 month support programme, will guide new exporters through key topics, whilst dedicated international trade advisers can recommend events on new markets and how to access overseas tradeshow funding.

A strong digital focus will see novice exporters benefit from DIT’s e-exporting programme, which offers guidance on navigating the global digital marketplace. Support is also available through ExportSavvy, a new online training tool, local export clinics and exporters can taste new markets on Export Insight Visits.

Are you Exporting for Growth?

If you are a more experienced exporter that is looking for help entering new markets, developing a proactive export strategy or overcoming barriers to export, DIT can offer tailored advice and access to international opportunities.

Every year local DIT teams lead trade missions to overseas markets. These visits offer the chance to experience new business cultures, build contacts, network with buyers and organise 1:1 meetings with targeted prospects. Upcoming visits include to Poland, Japan and Turkey.

Exporters can also benefit from programmes including Postgraduates for International Business, which places international students in local companies, the Export Communications Review, which helps to prepare your business to advertise overseas and the Export Marketing Research Scheme, which enables companies to gauge how successful a market will be.

Are you a Medium-Sized Business?

Medium-sized businesses (MSBs) are companies with a turnover of between £25m and £250m and make an important contribution to the growth of the UK economy. DIT has designed a special support package for MSBs, which includes being assigned an international trade adviser who specialises in helping companies of this size.

DIT runs regular MSB focused events, which enable local firms to network with likeminded local companies, to make key industry contacts and to discuss the challenges of selling internationally. MSBs are also introduced to High Value Opportunities (HVOs), which help local companies to access large scale overseas procurement projects and win contracts.
