A message to Black Country businesses ahead of 2021

Dear local businesses,

At the end of what has been a very challenging year we are sure you are looking forward to a break! Before you finish for the holidays, however, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all the businesses whom we work with about the new rules coming into effect when the transition period ends on the 31st December 2020. Additionally, we would like to extend our support as your local Growth Hub, to help you ensure your business is ready for the UK’s new relationship with the EU.
As you are undoubtedly aware, negotiations are ongoing, however there are a number of actions you can take no matter the outcome of the negotiations in order to be prepared as the end of the transition period may affect the way your business trades, perhaps in ways you may not have considered.
Key changes, for example, include the way businesses move goods across the border with the EU, data sharing with organisations in EU countries and use of personal data, providing services to EU markets, and the immigration status of employees. Furthermore changes could affect travel, business and qualification recognition, and certification and labelling of products and materials, amongst many other potential changes.
To prepare your business please get in touch at your earliest convenience for a 1-2-1 so that we can guide you through the actions that are relevant to your business. You can reach our dedicated business support team on 0300 770 2245 or at enquiries@bcgrowthhub.com(Please note: we will be closed for the festive period from the 21st December until the 4th January 2021 – If you need advice during this time, please contact the National Support Line on 0800 998 1098). Alternatively, you can click here to use an easy online EU Exit diagnostic tool, to let us know what support your business requires and any preparations you may have already undertaken.
The government has made available a handy checker tool, which takes just a few minutes to complete, and will give you a personalised list of actions to take to prepare your business. Find the checker at www.gov.uk/transition.
We hope to speak with you before the Christmas break or very early in the New Year and if we can support your business in any way, including but not limited to guidance around trading after the transition period, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Kind Regards,
The Black Country Growth Hub Team
