We’re looking to grow the business and take it forward. When the LEP suggested this to me, I was all for it because it gave us an opportunity to share experiences within that group so I was interested to see how that would develop. I found it easy because of my previous experience of being a member of the local Chamber. It was managed very well and we were spoken to outside of the group as well as within the sessions

The experience was good, it was a good group and there was almost 100% attendance across the whole package. Each session was once per fortnight where you would share your problems or opportunities with the group, the group would then ask questions and have discussions or make suggestions about moving forward.

None of us competed, it was a diverse range of people group but a problem in business is the same whether you’re selling drawing pins or got a gymnasium etc. I’ve actually done business with one of the people from the group now, he’s involved in shirt embroidery and I’ve used them twice and we’re about to use them again.

The most important thing I learnt through the programme was that we have a poor conversion rate from enquiries to order, it was down around 23%. I shared this with the group and I received lots of suggestions and ideas to improve that which we are now implementing.

All you’ve got to provide yourself is a time commitment, to be honest that’s a great benefit to your business. You’ve got business owners, entrepreneurs willing to share their experiences with you, and you can log in to that. Be prepared to be open minded and be open, share your business experiences. It’s not just solving your problems, it’s helping to solving other people’s problems that you may have incurred during your business process.

The most important thing is to make sure to block out time in your diary and attend all of the sessions to get the most out of it.
