£577,000 manufacturing support boost generates 365 jobs in the Black Country

365 new jobs have been created at small to medium-sized manufacturers across the Black Country region thanks to dedicated support designed to boost performance and help them increase sales.

The Manufacturing Growth Programme, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and delivered by Economic Growth Solutions (EGS), has just delivered its latest grant to boost the fortunes of Recycled UK Limited, taking its total contribution to SMEs to more than £577,000

This assistance has been directed towards improving their business strategy to deliver managed growth including production capabilities and expansion of their floor space.

Companies – ranging from food and drink and automotive specialists to aerospace and textile manufacturers – have also benefitted from assistance in introducing new quality procedures.

“We are continually proving that the right support, delivered at the right time and by the right people, can make a significant difference to manufacturers,” explained Martin Coats, Managing Director at EGS.

“Over £5.1m has been awarded in the form of grants so far on a national scale and this has been used by firms across the country to improve the way they manufacture, launch new products or access additional/new markets. This has already equated to more than 2848 new jobs, with a further 854 expected to be created once projects are completed.”

He continued: “The difference with MGP is that it is delivered by manufacturing experts who understand the challenges companies are facing. They understand the language MDs are talking and can guide them on making the right decisions, before bringing in specialists on specific issues they are facing or opportunities they’re looking to explore.”

Black Country precision engineering specialist, A&M EDM’s Managing Director Mark Wingfield commented on working with the programme, “We invited MGP to come in and look at our business and how we could increase turnover and our manufacturing efficiency. The discussions were great and resulted in the creation of an action plan that focused on our approach to customer relationships, strategy and digital marketing.

“It also highlighted the need to secure the ISO:14001 environmental accreditation so that we could tender for larger contracts with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, RollsRoyce and Marston Aerospace.”

Dudley based fire product specialist, Bryland Fire Protection, MD Graham Turner commented, “By accessing the MGP, we were able to build an action plan on how we wanted to expand, and this led to the introduction of our expert to talk to us about a transformation programme that would unlock our potential.”

Graham continued: “The process was nothing short of incredible. It allowed us to take a step back from day-to-day activities and look at why we are successful and where our core expertise lies. One of the outcomes was to have a concerted push on supplying solutions to data centers and that is already paying off.

“We have significant expertise in selecting the right suppression systems and designing a bespoke solution for installation, maintenance and ongoing servicing. In fact, we have just been named as the DCS (Data Centre Solutions) Physical Security and Fire Suppression Product of the Year 2017 for a recent project we have completed at a key confidential Data Centre in the UK.”
